Looking back

7 years ago this weekend, my Grandpa Bill left this world for another world.

3 years ago on the Friday of Memorial Day, my boyfriend asked me to be his wife. We all know how that turned out :)

2 years ago this weekend our dear friends were married and had an awesome celebration.

1 year ago this weekend I was counting down the days until school was out of session and we were heading to Florida.

This Friday of Memorial Day weekend I'm stoked because I rocked my prenatal tests.

Memorial Day weekend definitely makes me reflect on the past. It's such a beautiful, American holiday, the kick-off to summer, full of hope and long lazy, evenings. I am stoked for this summer and all the adventures it will bring.

Summer in the city

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty...

It's summer!! Okinawa this past week reminds me of Indiana in late June and July. It's hot and humid and today I can't see the Pacific as I type this due to the haze. It reminds me of what I lovingly refer to as Indiana "white sky" days. I left the hospital after a routine appointment @ 12:20 this afternoon and the marquee said the temperature was 92 degrees!!! The other day I filled the car up @ 7:30 am and the marquee on Camp Foster said 83 degrees. I've got my baby curls (can you still call them that when you have a baby?) going crazy at the nape of my neck. It's still so weird to me to have warm weather practically year round. I just hope I don't grow blase towards seeing palm trees on a daily basis.

27 weeks

Today is the big 27 week date for us. Nothing special happens when your weeks change, no balloons (not even latex free!) and certainly no sweets coming down like manna from heaven. Little One, as we've taken to calling him, is a wiggly little boy who lays like his papa- at an angle across a bed (stomach). He also has some very strong legs. He enjoys beef and isn't a fan of when I sit in an office chair. I can't wait to get to know more about him!

It's strange, to me, that with the exception of Eric and Nickole, no one who has known me since before August has seen me pregnant. Obviously my nearest and dearest know I'm pregnant but I wonder if it will sink in a bit more once they actually see me.

Speaking of seeing me, I had a kiddo say today that he sees my stomach before he sees me. It was cute as I tend to view his work from behind to keep him on task, and thought I was fairly sly, but obviously I gotta figure out a new system for the next 3 weeks! Kids say the most honest things.

3 weeks 5 days until I'm Indiana bound!

Mexican food

I miss Tex-Mex food. Okinawa has a couple facisimile's of "Mexican" but honestly Taco Bell is better. I can't wait to visit PV (Puerto Vallarta's for those of you sadly unaware) and devour their salsa. Sigh...

Beach Bummin'

We took full advantage of the GORGEOUS cloudless sky and scooted over to White Beach, the naval facility we see out our living room window, today. It was just plain gorgeous. I honestly didn't see a single cloud in the sky. We were there long enough to watch the tide come in and observe a couple of hermit crabs creep around. Pretty neat.

I think it's obvious

I think people may start to think I'm not just overeating...

I'm obviously not in Indiana right now

The Taiko Drumming club from my school performed for the school community yesterday (5-5) for Children's Day (learn more in an earlier post). It was so neat to see these kiddos (including 3 of mine!) performing somewhat in beat and synchronized with each other. It was 9 am, in the upper 70s, palms moving in the breeze-it was obvious I wasn't in Indiana anymore.

All pictures were taken on the front lawn of my school.
